SEGAMAT: The district has potential to be promoted as an eco- and agro-tourism spot, said state tourism committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong.

He added that Segamat is known for its durian and mata kucing fruits, as well as recreational places like the Labis Hot Springs.

“We want to encourage companies to promote overnight stay travel packages for the district, especially during the fruit season.

“Tourists can enjoy picking and eating popular local fruits in the farm similar to packages offered overseas,” said Tee after a meeting at the Segamat district office in Labis recently.
He added that several fruit farms have been identified around Jementah for the activity.

“We will also promote the use of trains into the district, similar to Kluang, for a more unique travelling experience,” he said.

Tee added the district received about 150,000 tourists yearly, but this figure is expected to increase by 20% this year.

“Besides the fruits and recreational attractions, we can also highlight other specialities including wooden handicraft and food, especially the famous squid satay here.

“The state government will be working closely with the district office to promote these local products and upgrade the infrastructure and facilities here,” he added.
